Gifted & Talented

Mrs. Burfeind

Hello Seven Hills Students and Families,

Welcome to the Gifted and Talented page! My name is Heather Burfeind, and I am the Gifted and Talented Coordinator at the Bloomington Campus Elementary School.  I graduated from the University of Minnesota with my Master's of Education in 2008 and received my certification in Gifted and Talented Instruction from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota that same year.  This is my twelfth year of teaching at Seven Hills. I have had the privilege of teaching at Seven Hills since it opened in 2006.  You may notice the large Harvard University logo at the top of this page.  I named my classroom after Harvard University because I want to encourage my students to dream big when it comes to their futures, because I believe that with hard work and perseverance there is nothing that they cannot achieve.  To me, Harvard University represents a community of learners with the highest expectations of academic success.

I look forward to working with you and your student(s).  I know that with cooperation and good communication we'll be able to ensure academic success for your student(s).  If you need to contact me for any reason please feel free to email me at: or call: 952-426-6000.  I do not return calls during the school day but will contact you before or after school.

At the elementary level, Grade 3 through 5 students will be formally identified to receive advanced instruction in mathematics and language arts. Students may be identified for either or both of these services. Students in kindergarten  through second grade are identified informally as being advanced learners by their classroom teachers but they will not receive supplemental services from the Gifted and Talented Coordinator; rather, the Coordinator and the classroom teachers will collaborate on how to provide differentiated instruction to advanced learners within regular classroom settings.

Seven Hills bases its program services on the Minnesota Automated Reporting Student System’s (“MARSS”) definition of gifted and talented participation.
