Dear first grade students and families,
I am very pleased to be teaching first grade at Seven Hills Preparatory Academy this year! I look forward to working with each of you to make this year one of exciting growth and learning!
I attended high school in Forest Lake, Minnesota. After studying in northern Japan for a year, I attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BA in History. More recently I earned my elementary teaching license at Hamline University. With a background in working with adults with developmental disabilities and youth- and history-oriented nonprofits, I entered the elementary education field when I began working as an AVID tutor in Minneapolis Public Schools. Soon after, I began to work in the district as a day-to-day and long-term reserve teacher. In the fall of 2013 I was introduced to the terrific learning community at Seven Hills and have been here ever since. I have had the opportunity to work in most of the classrooms here as a guest teacher and have met most of our terrific students, as well as many of their families.
Throughout our year together, I am hoping that each student will find new areas of interest and will also grow greatly in areas that he or she has already explored. First grade is a time of rapid advancement, when the world continues to open up in so many ways. My broad goals are to support and challenge each student as they grow in areas they already know, as well as to find new ways to see the world and use their ever-expanding set of skills. I intend to foster an atmosphere of respect and inquiry, where each student can feel both safe and appropriately challenged.
There will be lots of additional information to come, and I look forward to getting to know each of you better. Please feel free to contact me at any time. Email is usually the best way to reach me, though I am also happy to discuss any issues or concerns in person or over the phone and will gladly set aside time to do this before or after student hours.
Thank you in advance for your hard work and support! Together, we’ll make this a terrific year here in room 266!
