Welcome to school year 2015-2016!

Our Mission:

Seven Hills Preparatory Academy engages students in a rigorous Classical education, designed to prepare individual students for strong citizenship and life-long learning.

Hello!  My name is Taylor Van Clay, and I’m so excited to have your child in my classroom.  This will be my second year teaching at Seven Hills and I wanted to introduce myself before we begin this amazing year!

Some fun facts about me: I love coffee and often have a cup of coffee in hand!  I was born and raised in MN and enjoy the many opportunities this state has to offer.  I spent many days this summer running around the lakes and spending as much time as possible outdoors swimming and paddle boarding.

I graduated from Luther College in May, 2013 with a degree in Elementary education and an endorsement in reading instruction.  I spent the fall of 2012 student teaching in North Carolina.  It was an amazing experience living out on the east coast under the instruction of two different outstanding teachers.  I spent the first half of my student teaching in a second grade classroom in Durham, NC. The second half of my student teaching I spent working with a reading specialist in Carrboro, NC.

After graduation I spent a year substitute teaching and was blessed to spend most of my time subbing at Seven Hills. Last year was my first year teaching second grade. I’m so excited to start my second year teaching.  I know this is going to be an amazing year for our class! I’m really looking forward to working with you and your child this year! I want to welcome you to come into our classroom as a volunteer. If you are interested, please let me know. Also, please contact me whenever you need to throughout the year by e-mail or by phone.

Seven Hills loves to recognize students that show their C.A.R.E.S!

Cooperation

Assertion

Responsibility

Empathy

Self-control

Each week I will choose one student who has shown his/her C.A.R.E.S along with the emphasis of the month.

C.A.R.E.S. monthly focus:

September - Cooperation

October - Assertion

November - Responsibility

December - Empathy

January - Self-Control

Students chosen to be VIP each month will be recognized at our large VIP assembly on the last Friday of each month. Families are encouraged to attend.

Classroom Behavior System

Every day each student will start out on green.  There will be three behavioral reminders before each color change.  A change to yellow (three reminders)  will result in a verbal reminder about C.A.R.E.S. and a discussion about how to stay on track for the rest of the day. A color change to orange (total of six reminders) will result in an email home.  If there is a color change to red (total of nine reminders) your student will be sent to the office.  Please have a conversation with your student about our behavior policy and using C.A.R.E.S. in the classroom.

That being said, I know it is going to be a great year and most of you will be seeing green in their planners!
